General

10 questions

How long has T.Byrd's been around?

T.Byrd's Heating & Cooling is run today by the Oyler brothers, CJ, Matt, and Tim, as a family company. Their family's work in home comfort goes back to 1972. That's multi-generational service the brothers carry forward in the Charlotte market and now in Raleigh & Triangle.

Are you family owned?

Yes. The Oyler brothers, CJ, Matt, and Tim, own and run T.Byrd's Heating & Cooling as a family company. T.Byrd's was founded in Charlotte by Travis Byrd; the Oylers purchased the business and carry forward their own family's legacy of home services since 1972. Brothers in business and life. Leaders, technicians, and teammates. The standards they hold to came from the family before them: show up, work hard, leave things better than you found them.

What areas do you serve?

Two markets across North Carolina. The Charlotte market covers 20 cities, Concord, Charlotte, Kannapolis, Harrisburg, Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, Mooresville, Salisbury, Matthews, Mint Hill, Pineville, Indian Trail, Monroe, Albemarle, Mount Pleasant, Midland, Gastonia, Belmont, and Statesville. The Raleigh & Triangle market covers Raleigh, Wake Forest, Youngsville, Rolesville, Louisburg, Bunn, Knightdale, Wendell, Zebulon, Creedmoor, Henderson, Butner, Oxford, Durham, Cary, Morrisville, Garner, Apex, Clayton, and Warrenton. If your town isn't on the list, call us, we may still be able to reach you.

Do you serve both Charlotte and Raleigh?

Yes. Two markets, two crews, one standard. Charlotte: (704) 703-6425. Raleigh & Triangle: (919) 897-1111. Each market has its own phone, its own dispatch, and its own team, call the one closest to you.

What makes T.Byrd's different?

Three things. First: we don't guess, we test. Every diagnosis is backed by real measurement. Airflow tested. Static pressure read. Refrigerant pressures checked on the gauges. We give you the data, then we give you the choice. Second: flat-rate prices in writing before any work begins. No surprise invoices. Third: a family standard from 1972. Show up. Work hard. Leave things better than you found them. Modern diagnostics. Traditional values.

Are your technicians certified?

Yes. Certified technicians, EPA Section 608, manufacturer training on the brands we install (Daikin and Goodman), and ongoing training as the equipment changes. We don't send anyone to your house who isn't equipped to do the work right.

Do you do commercial work or just residential?

Residential is our focus. Single-family homes, townhomes, additions, sunrooms, and bonus rooms. We don't do commercial rooftop work or industrial systems.

What brands do you work on?

For ducted equipment (central air, gas and electric furnace, heat pump): every major residential brand, including Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Rheem, Goodman, Bryant, American Standard, York, Heil, and Ruud. If you know what you have, we can work on it. For ductless mini-splits, we service systems regardless of who installed them. For new installs and replacements (ducted or ductless), we install Daikin and Goodman.

Is T.Byrd's new to the Raleigh area?

We're now serving Raleigh, Wake Forest, Youngsville, and the surrounding Triangle. The Raleigh-market dispatch is from Youngsville, NC. Same Oyler brothers (CJ, Matt, and Tim), same diagnostic-first standards that built our reputation in the Charlotte market. The family's work in home comfort goes back to 1972, and that's the standard we bring to every Triangle call.

Who are the Oyler brothers?

CJ, Matt, and Tim Oyler. Three brothers who run T.Byrd's Heating & Cooling as a family company. They've spent their adult lives in home comfort, carrying forward a family tradition that goes back to 1972 in heating and refrigeration. Brothers in business and life. Leaders, technicians, and teammates with a shared commitment to each other, the craft, and the customers they serve. The full story is on our About page (Charlotte · Raleigh).

Pricing

6 questions

How much will a repair cost?

$77 service call ($39 for Mission Ready Plan members). Once we know what's wrong, you get flat-rate pricing in writing before any work begins. The service-call fee credits toward the repair when you approve same-visit. Cardinal Club members get 10% off the repair total.

Do you charge for estimates on a new system?

No. Estimates on a new system or replacement are free. We come out, walk the house, pull a load calculation, and quote the system that actually fits, at no charge. The service-call fee only applies on repair diagnostics.

Is the diagnostic fee credited toward the repair?

Yes. The service-call fee credits toward the repair if you approve the work same-visit. You only pay it as a standalone fee if you decide not to proceed.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We work with GreenSky. Pre-qualification takes minutes with a soft credit check that won't affect your score. We walk you through the options during the in-home consultation; most customers are pre-approved before the install date.

What's the Cardinal Club and what does it cost?

The Cardinal Club is our maintenance membership. $14.99 a month per system, or $180 for the year. Two seasonal tune-ups, 10% off all repairs, 5% off new system replacements, weekend and holiday service at no extra charge, 24/7/365 answering, priority scheduling during busy seasons, and a transferable plan. Cancel anytime, no penalty. Two tune-ups alone are worth more than the annual cost. For first responders, teachers, and military, the same benefits are free under the Mission Ready Plan (Charlotte · Raleigh), with two extras on top: a $39 service-call fee (versus the standard $77) and an additional 5% off all work.

Do you price-match?

Bring competing quotes to the consultation. Our flat-rate pricing is in writing before any work begins, and our diagnostic process means we can tell whether the system actually needs what's being quoted. We'll tell you honestly whether we can do the same work for less, or whether the other quote is the better deal.

Service

6 questions

When can someone come out?

Most days, same or next business day. Book online before noon and we can almost always reach you the same day during business hours (Mon-Fri 8 AM – 8 PM). After-hours calls are answered by our team, not a voicemail. Cardinal Club members get weekend and holiday service at no extra charge.

Do you offer same-day service?

Yes, most days. Same-day availability depends on what's already on the schedule. Cardinal Club members get front-of-line scheduling when the calendar is tight.

How long does an AC installation take?

Most standard AC installs are done in a day. More complex configurations, a system swap where the line set has to be replaced, or a first-time install where we're running new ductwork, take two days. We'll tell you the timeline during the consultation, before you sign anything.

How long does a heat pump installation take?

Standard heat pump installs are one day. Variable-speed or multi-stage installs where we're tuning the controller and balancing static pressure carefully can run into a second day. We start in the morning, commission the system on calibrated gauges before we leave, and walk you through the thermostat.

Do you install mini splits?

Yes. We install Daikin and Goodman mini-splits, single-zone and multi-zone. We carry the line set, the tools, and the experience to do the install cleanly: flares torqued to spec, line set runs straight, indoor heads placed where they actually work. Most single-zone installs are one day. We also service and repair mini-splits regardless of who installed them, and the $77 diagnostic applies to any mini-split repair, credited toward the work.

Do you replace electric furnaces?

Yes. We repair, install, and replace electric furnaces, common as heat-pump backup heat and in homes without natural gas service. The diagnostic is the standard service call ($77, or $39 for Mission Ready Plan members). We test sequencers, elements, and contactors with the meters before we tell you what's wrong.

Emergency

4 questions

Do you offer after-hours service?

Yes. After-hours calls are answered by our team, not a voicemail. Cardinal Club and Mission Ready Plan members get weekend, holiday, and after-hours service at no extra charge, no surcharge for late-night or weekend calls. Non-members can still book emergency service after hours at standard rates plus an after-hours surcharge that goes toward the technician's time.

What if my AC quits during a heat wave?

Call us. Same or next-day service is typically available even at peak demand, depending on what's already on the schedule. Cardinal Club members get front-of-line scheduling when the calendar is tight.

What if my heat goes out overnight?

Same answer for heat as for AC, our 24/7 answering service routes the call, and if it's a true emergency we'll get to you. If we can talk you through a safe temporary fix until morning (a tripped breaker, a thermostat battery, a switched-off furnace switch in the basement), we'll do that too, no charge.

How fast can you get to me?

It depends on where you are and what else is on the schedule. Concord, Charlotte, and the immediate surrounding cities are typically same-day during business hours. Raleigh-area calls are dispatched from Youngsville with similar response timing. Farther reaches of either market can be a longer wait during peak demand. Book online or call, and we'll give you a real time, not a window.

Maintenance

5 questions

How often should HVAC equipment be serviced?

Twice a year for a heat pump (spring and fall, it runs in both seasons). Once a year for a separate AC and furnace setup, AC in spring before cooling season, furnace in fall before heating season. Mini splits get one cleaning a year, plus monthly filter cleaning by you. Skip a year and you typically get away with it; skip three and you start paying for it.

What does a tune-up actually include?

A real tune-up is measurement, not just inspection. 30-point unit inspection including refrigerant level, wiring, compressor, motors, thermostat. Chemical condenser coil cleaning. Condensate drain flush. Ductwork evaluation. Indoor air quality evaluation. We document what we measured so you can compare it next year. We don't guess, we test, and a tune-up is where that shows up most clearly.

Is the Cardinal Club worth it?

For most homeowners, yes. $14.99 a month or $180 a year, per system. Two tune-ups alone are worth more than the annual cost ($360 in tune-up value at the standard $180 standalone rate vs $180 in dues). Add in 10% off repairs, 5% off new system replacements, no weekend or holiday surcharges, 24/7 answering, and priority scheduling, and the membership pays itself back the first time something needs attention. Cancel anytime, no penalty.

Can I cancel the Cardinal Club anytime?

Anytime, no penalty. We don't lock anyone into a contract. If the membership isn't paying off the way you expected, call us and we'll cancel it on the spot. The work we've already done stays warranted under the original terms.

What's the Mission Ready Plan?

Free annual maintenance plan for first responders, teachers, and military members. Every Cardinal Club benefit: two seasonal tune-ups, 10% off repairs, 5% off new system replacements, weekend and holiday service at no extra charge, 24/7 answering, priority scheduling, transferable plan. No monthly fee. Two Mission Ready Plan extras on top: a $39 service-call fee (versus the standard $77 that Cardinal Club members and non-members pay) and an additional 5% off all work. We can't pay first responders back. We can take this off their list. Apply on the Mission Ready Plan page (Charlotte · Raleigh).
